THE HARDY STREET NUISANCE.

To the Editor of the Nelson Evening Mail. Sir — deferring to the letter signed "A. G. Belts" in your last night's issue, in which he. seems to fear, that if the constantly-running stream in the Waimearoad were allowed to flush the drain opposite the Colonist office, his and other properties might be. injured, I beg to remark that the upper end of the culvert suggested by Mr. Wakefield, might be furnished with a self-acting penstock of the. simplest form, to regulate the discharge to a lower level. Thus, during the summer months, the public would have the benefit of improved drainage, the swamp at the end of Hardy-street would be laid dry, and no one would be injured in the process. I am, &c, Fever and Ague.
