Wintjsji Evening. Entertainments.*-— The last of thfs series of entertainments is advertised to Jake place on Tuesday evening next,: when, we understand a full and varied programme will be presented. Those who^ are to - take part in : it are requested to meet at the HarmoniefHall., at seven o'clock to-morrow evening. The Suez Mails.—^lt will be seen by the Post Office notices which appear elsewhere, that the next mail for the United Kingdom ■ via Suez, will be despatched on Friday nexfrby the : Alhambra, as it iB not considered safe to trust to the chance of the Bangitoto being in time to catch the mail steamer in -Melbourne. The in-coming mail is 1 due in Melbourne on the 2th inst., and the telegrams may be expected to arrive in New Zealand within a week from that date. The San Francisco Mail. — This mail is now a full week overdue and great is the grumbling thereat. People are beginning to ask what is the use of subsidising a line that is never to be depended upon. Good humoredly enough we have hitherto put up with a four day's delay on every occasion, and have been disposed to think that if it arrived within that time of the appointed day : we were fortunate beyond our deserts. Now, however, when the customary four days have expanded into a week, and still there are no signs of the anxiously )ooked-for steamer, we are gradually losing our temper, and beginning to go into calculations (always a bad sign) with regard to the cost of this new mail service. The results are not favorable.
