i Harmonic Society. — The Nelson Harmonic Society will give their next quarterly concert at the Provincial Hall, . to-morrow evening, when the first part will '< consist of Macfarren's May Day, the second part, as usualj sonßisting of mis- : cellaneous selections. ' Mk. Curtis' Meeting. — We would J remind our readers that Mr. Curtis M.H.R invites the electors of the town of kelson to meet him at the Provincial Hall, this evening, in order that he may give to them an account of the proceedings of ■ the House of Representatives in its last session. Gas for Nelson. — We understand that in reply to a depuration from the Board of Works that waited upon them yesterday, the Executive. have expressed their intention to supply the town of Nelson with gas, on the same principle as that on which the waterworks are based, and stated that it is proposedt o bring in a Bill for the purpose at the next session of the Provincia Council. Wesleyan Quarterly Meeting. — The Quarterly Meeting of the Weeleyan Church was held at Richmond yesterday, when all parts of the Circuit were well represented. A cordial invitation was unanimously given to the Revs. W. J. Watkin and J. H. Taylor to remain another year. We are glad to be able to state that there was an increase in the funds throughout the Circuit, and that a vigorous effort was being made by the members present to reduce the Circuit debt (partly caused by Ministers' removal expenses). A subscription list was at. once opened, and signatures to the amount of £24 obtained. Tbe subject of education was then brought before the meeting, and after able discussion, the following resolution was unanimously adopted : — "That the time has now arrived when, as a church, we should take upon ourselves the duty of providing education, on a Christian basis for the young of our people ; and that" the Rev. W. J. Watkin, Rev. J. A. Taylor, and the Stewards form a Committee, with power to add to their number, to carry out this object in Nelson." Heller's Wonders. — Mr. Heller had a bumper house last night, when the tricks of the previous evening were repeated. The musical portion consisted of Mendelssohn's Lieder ohne worfe, which are always welcome, but when played by so masterly a hand as that which iuterpreted them last night are beautiful iti the extreme. In addition to this the Wedding March was repeated and received with the same applause that greeted it on the previous evening. This was followed by " Supernatural Vision," aud a very fair exhibition of Punch and Judy's remarkable sayings and doings, which last elicited roars of laughter from the audience, both , old and and young. Who is there, indeed, that can refrain from laughing when a veritable Punch and Judy are iuviting , them to do so ? To-morrow afternoon , Mr. Heller gives a performance iv the Oddfellows' Hall, for the special convenience of children, on which occasion all sorts of wonderful things are to be done, and another in the evening, wheu he hopes ito see the house crowded as usual. As , there will be au entire cbauge of . programme.
