RESIDENT MAGISTRATES COURT.
(Before J. Sharp Esq. R.M.) This Day. Mary ANeedham was charged with putting ofi a cheque, knowing the same to be forged. H. E. Nathan said that between 8 and 9 o'clock last uight, prisoner called at his shop and bought a brooch for £2 10s., in payment for which she gave a cheque for £18 18s. , purporting to be signed by Nathaui(d Edwards. He sent his boy for chauge. and meantime prisoner bought a watch for £10 10s., and pawned it immediately for £7 12s. As he began to suspect there was something wrong, he went out and yot a policeman and returned to the house, and asked prisoner to accompany thrui to Mr. Edwards' house. She started, but soon said "let me goto my husb.iuii," and she endeavored to snatch the cinque from the hands of the constable, aud ;isk<wj to bo let go and she would never do it again. James Shore, constable, corroborated the evidence of the former witness. Nathaniel Edwards said he did not know the prisoner. The cheque produced was neither written nor signed by him, nor did he ever authorise the prisoner to sign his name. Prisonr-r was committed for trial.
