Otago University. — The Council of the University of Otago met on Friday last to consider the question of amalgamation with the New Zealand University. The nominations to the Council of the New Zealand University by the General Government were strongly objected to. They are Major Richardson, Judge Chapman, Mr. Macandrew, Captain Frazer, and Mr. Miller. Resolutions were passed — first, that the Council comprise ten members, resident in Otago, and selected from the existing Council; second, that the endowments of the Otago University should be secured by an Amendment Act; third, that the exclusion of ministers of religion was invidious, especially in the case of Dr. Burns, the Chancellor of the University of Otago. These resolutions were telegraphed to the General Government.
