The Nelson Evening Mail SATURDAY, OCTOBER 1, 1870.
Divine Servico will be held in All Saints Church to-morrow afternoon. A public meeting will be held in the Schoolroom, Stoke, this evening, for the psrpose of forming a Faacners' Club in that district. Christ Church. — We are requested to state that the sermons at Christ Church to-morrow will be preached, in the morning by the Rev. F. Watkins, incumbent of G-reymouth, and in the evening by the Rev. T. Flavell, incumbent of Charleston and Brighton. ! Winter Evening Entertainments. — The next of these entertainmeuts, consisting of dissolving views, and vocal and instrumental music, will take place at the Assembly Room on Monday evening next. A practice will be held at tho Harmonic Hall this evening at 8 o'clock. Pigeon Shooting. — The match between Messrs. Staverfc and Roderick M'Rae, came off in Mr. Richardson's paddock ancl resulted in favor of Mr. Stavert, who shot six, against Mr. M'Rae's four, birds out of seven, at 21 yards rise. A second match at 25 yards rise, resulted in a tie, each of them killing five birds. Christy Minstrels. — Owing to counter attractions at other places, the attendance was somewhat limited last night, the programme, however, was carried out in the Company's best style, under the able management of Mr. Raiuford. Mr. Bent, as the comedian, was intensely amusing, while the other members contributed their quota to the evening's amusement in the most spirited and praiseworthy manner. As the stay of the company in Nelson is but short we recommend all those who are fond of good music, combined with genuine wit and humor, to pay a visit to the Oddfellows' Hall. Mr. George Cotterell. — A highly entertaining performance was given last night by Mr. George Cotterell, assisted by a few friends. The first part consisted of selections from those impersonations for which Mr. Cotterell has become so famous, the second comprised music, and comic songs, and the whole concluded with the farce of Box and Cox, which was excellently acted by Nelson amateurs. Mrs. Bouncer certainly did not look quite the lady, but she, or perhaps we should say he, got through the part of the lodginghouse keeper in a very creditable manner. On the whole, the entertainment was one of the most successful that has been given in Nelson for a long time.
