The Crown Prince suddenly attacked Marsha* Macmahon at Woerth, and after an obstinate engagement Macmahon was defeated with a loss of 10,000 killed and 6,000 prisoners, comprising 100 officer!-, together with 30 guns, four metrajllenrs, two eagles, and the baggage and commissariat of the army; the battle ending in the complete rout of the French. In the Legislature, a stormy debate took place. Recrimination and even blows were exchanged by the members. The abdication of the Emperor has been demanded. England remains neutral. Five millions have been voted for the English .army and navy, and 20,000 men are being recruited. The arsenals are busy. The chartering of coal direct to French or Prussia" fleet is prohibited.
