Meeting of Germans. — A meeting of Germans is to be held at the Fleece Hotel, at 7 o'clock tbis evening, for tha purpose of forming a committee to raise subscriptions for the widows and orphans of those who may fall by the war now raging. We notice that in Wellington and other towns in New Zealand similar meetings have been held with satisfactory results.

Nelson and Cobdkn Railway. — We understand that a letter has been received in town from Mr. Murdoch, the Inspector of the Bank of New Zealand, stating that he is in receipt of a telegram from a trustworthy correspondent in London informing him that the railway contract had been signed upon the understanding that the time for commencing operations was to be extended until the state of the money market at home had assumed a more settled aspect.
