GOURLAY V WEBB.
To the Editor of the Nelson Evening Maid. Sir— ln the late case before the Magistrate's Court, Mr. Webb in his evidence stated he had' " secured the three nights Hall rent in advance for Mr. Gourlay had been here before." This gratuitously unjust inuendo I cannot allow to pass without notice ; as coming from the sworn lips of such an humble and cautiouslyspeaking individual, the impression (as intended to be) conveyed, would be that on my last visit to Nelson difficulties had been experienced by the parties connected with the important " Hall ." I have, therefore, only to assert that then as now, in accordance with Mr. Webb's imperial rule, I paid my rent in advance, and no complaint whatever (excepting my own complaint of the bad custody and filthy srate of the "Hall") took place at that time, notwithstanding Mr. Webb's cautious aspersion. I am, &c, W. Gourlay.
