The Nelson Evening Mail. MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 19, 1870.

Resident Magistrate's Court. — John Hooper, James Poynter, and Henry Bradcock, aged 9, 10, and 12 years respectively, were brought up this morning charged by W. Marshall of Toi-Toi Valley, with robbing a hen's nest yesterday afternoon. After hearing the evidence, his Worship said that no other course was open to him but to order them to be whipped, but, on the complainant stating that he did not wish to press the case, they were discharged with a caution, upon the understanding that their parents should chastise them at home. Accident. — A serious accident occurred at Wakapuaka, on Friday evening last, to Mrs. Wastney, the wife of Mr. Wasiuey, M.P.C. It appears that she was driving home and on arriving at her gate she got down, and opened it, and lei the horse in, and was in the act of gettiug into the trap again when the reins slipped down against the horse's legs who became restive and plunged so violently that Mrs Wastney was thrown out, the wheel passing over her arm and breaking the two bones below the elbow. Dr Cotterell was sent for without delay, and we are glad to learn that, although the accident was of a most serious nature for an old person, the sufferer is progressing most favorably. Winter Evening Entertainments. — A capital programme has been prepared by the Committee for to-morrow evening, comprising many new musical selections, a most amusing reading by the Rev. G. H. Johnstone, from Theodore Hook's " Sayings and Doings," a recitation composed for the occasion by a well-known fellow townsmaQ, and a comic song by a gentleman who has already given his valuable services at these entertainments, greatly to the satisfaction of the audience. We trust that the promoters may be more fortunate in the weather than on the last occasion, and that their efforts to afford a pleasant entertainment will be appreciated by the public at large.
