COMMERCIAL INTELLIGENCE.
The Continental Banks have raised the rate of discount. A large sum has been withdrawn from the Bank of England for the Continent. The Bank discount rose from 3£ on the 23rd to 6, on August 4. Oriental Bank Shares declined to 30. Commercial affairs are disorganised; corn tallow are advanced. Cotton is depressed. Australian preserved meats are taken up largely by the Admiralty. There has been a severe panic in Liverpool. Victorian debentures, 107 ; Sydney, 97. Consuls, 88t. New Zealand Fives, 1891, 100; Sixes, 1891, March and September, 112. The value of exports to New Zealand for the mratli increased by .£60,000. New Zealand butter consigned to Tallerman sold at 84s. per cwt. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company announce an interim dividend of ten per cent.
