The s.s. Airedale, A. Kennedy, Commander, left the Bluff at 3-15 p.m. on the 30th ult., eased the enginas at 7*30, passed the Nuggeet Light at 8 o'clock, stopped the engines and proceeded under sail alone till arrival off Otago Heads, arrived at Port Chalmers at 6M5 a.m., 31st. Sailed from thence on the Ist inst. at 1 p.m., had strong south-west winds and fine weather till 2 a.m., when it became very foggy, which lengthened the passiige; arrived alongside Peacock's wharf at Lyttelton, at 2 am. of the 2nd, aber a very fast passage of 17 hours. Left again at 2-15 p.m. same day, reached Wellington at 7*15 a.m. on the 3rd Proceeded at 12-30 on the 4th, arrived at Picton, at 5-30 a.m. Left at 730 pm., took the pilot on board after a fast run of eight hours. The Anchor steamer Charles Edward arrived at the Albion wharf this morning for Westport, after a splendid run of seventeen hours and a halt; Captain Holmes reports leaving hereon the 28th instant ac 6 p.m. for Wanganui, and encountered a fierce S.E gale in the Straits, arriving at Wanganui at 11 a.m. on Monday. Left on Tuesday at midnight with a full load ot cattle and she; p for Westport. Shortly after crossing the bar a strong S.W. wind arose and increased towards morning to a gale right in her teeth, and kept hammering at it lor 36 honrs, and arrived at Westport at 3 p.m. on Thursday; left atrain on Friday at 2 p.m., and crossed the Grey bar about midnight; lelt at 5 p.m. on Saturday, reaching Westport early hunday morning, and leaving for Nelsou at 4 p.m., arriving this morning at 9 30. fhe leaves tomorrow for Wanganui and the West Coast.
