Friday, August 2b\ Present : All the members. Letters were received from the Provincial Secretary and Engineer relative jto the widening of the Haven-road, and j from Mr. Acton Adams on the subject of I Shakspeare Walk. ALTON STREET. The following tenders for gravelling Alton-street, at per chain, were then I opened : — ) West side. East side. Osman .... 8/6 13/Devaney . . .21/- 13/Pettit . . . .21/- 14/Jellyman & Cre«swell . 20j- UjLock .... 23/- 16/---j The tender of W. Osman was accepted. j RUSsELL-STREET. I The Secretary produced the accounts with reference to this street which showed that the receipts during the last 13 years amounted to £3uo, aud the expenditure during the same period to £108 16s. Some discussion ensued on the resolution passed at the last meeting of the Board to the effect that the street should be formed this summer on condition that the inhabitants agree to pay a special rate for six years, and it was decided to abide by ihat resolution. j GRAVEL. Tenders for supplying gravel from (Wakapuaka were received from Small for 10s,, and from Ching for 15s. per cubic yard. The former teuder was accepted. LIGHTING AND CLEANING LAMPS. Some discussion took [dace on the letting of this contract, some of the i members being; of opinion that there was luo necessity for calling; for tenders, as the i present lamplighter and his pony had become an institution that should be perpetuated. Eventually it was decided that tenders should be invited, to be sent in by the next Board night. It was also agreed to erect lamp posts at the corner of Hampden and Waimea-streets, of Manuka and Collingwood-streets, and of Alton and Hardy-streets. SALTWATER BRIDGE. The. Surveyor was instructed to erect handrails on the sides of the Saltwater Bridge. STREET SCRAPINGS. A letter was read from Mr. T. Harley,
offering £5 per annum for the scrapiugs ' of the roads after they were collected, aud for the horse manure from the stable. The offer was rejected. LTAMPDEN AND KAWAI-STREETS. A letter from the inhabitants of these streets, praying that the works already commenced might he completed without delay, was referred to the Public Works Committee. surveyor's horse. Au application from the Surveyor to the effect that fodder for a horse should be allowed him was agreed to. VERANDAH. Leave was granted to Mr. Touet to erect a verandah in front of his house, in Collingwood-street, on the usual conditions. ■WASHINGTON VALLEY CUTTING. The Surveyor was instructed to havo certain repairs made in the road through the cutting at the head of Washing! on Valley. The Board then adjourned until Friday; the 9th September.
