VELOCIPEDE RIDING.
To the Editor of the Nelson Evening Mail. Sir — I desire to call attention to the clangers to which riders and drivers are exposed by their horses shying at velocipedes, and would suggest that some regulation should be put into force to stop the objectional practice. On Wednesday last as I was driving into Nelson, on coming rouud Trafalgar-street corner by the Church Hill, a boy on a velocipede came in front of ray horse, causing it to shy and briug the cart in coutact with the curbstone, almost capsizing it and throwing me out. If it had not been that a person who was with me caught me by the collar, I should certainly have fallen ont over the rail aud probably have met with a serious accident. Trusting that the authorities will take some steps in this matter, I am, &c ., Driver. Mrs. Mifpins says her daughter is worse than a misfortune — she's a g alaraity. Fond Mother: "And what would Johnny do if mamma were to die ?" "Eat up all the sugar." A daxcer once said to Socrates, "You cannot stand ou one leg as long as I can.'' "True," replied the philosopher, " but a goose can." For remainder of News see Fourth page.
