MINING INTELLIGENCE.
o MR. H. J. L. AUGARDE'S AVEEKLY REPORT. Our Share Market has to record the quotations of a new mine at Collingwood, viz., Mount Ophir, a small company possessing a lease of 16 acres of cement, in. whichjgold has been found. Beyond this, inactivity is the chief feature to record. Culliford Shares, £1 17s. 6J. paid, little or no business. The work in hand progressing favorably. Preparations making for the long expected machinery, which will arrive shortly. Perseverance Shares, £2 paid. A few transactions this week, shares having changed hands at par, at which price there are several buyers in the market. Towards the cud of the week we may be looking for returns from the fifth crushing. Lucky Hit Shares, £10 paV. Until the work agreed on is executed, and the result fully known, little business can be expected in these shares. Pioneer Shares, £7 paid, inactive. The works are progressing, bat deep sinking is uot a rapid proceeding, and time is required to confirm the previous good indications of copper procured from this mine. Masonic Shares, £11 Os. paid. Nothing new, beyond a meeting called for Monday (this day), at which all shareholders are requested to attend. Commercial Shares, £17 paid, dormant. Last call of £1, due this day. Mount Ophir Shares, £9 paid. A few shares were dealt in at £10, being £L premium. Our share market is dull and inactive this week, and until we get some of our many idle miues into operation it will continue to be so. The public are tired of expecting, and they want to have something 1 more than hear-say evidence for their money. The Perseverance cannot create much more excitement ; the miue is at work, and fairly Btarted, therefore the crushings are becoming a matter of fact, and the results will soon be viewed with the indifference inspired by use. The only excitement now to be expected is the payment of dividends, which, as they turn out good or bad, will effect the price of shares. There is no doubt that a better feeling towards this mine is extending, the shares are held well, and the addition of the last two geutlemen to the direction, has tended much to assist it. The Waimea South Quartz Crushing Company have allotted their shares, so we may shortly look for another importation of machinery. Wangapeka, as a district, is being thoroughly prospected, and hopes are entertained that in the coming summer the mineral resources of the Sherry and Tadmor will be brought to light, and so give an impetus to trade. Should the line of railroad to Foxhill, now contemplated, be carried out, it will be the means of facilitating the working of all reefs in this district by lessening the cost of carriage, an important item in all raining matters.
