A Curious Sect, calling themselves "Jehovah's Band," have arisen in New •Jersey. . Their peculiar form of worship, a local paper states, developes itself by blowing, whistling, shoutiug, jumpiug, wrestling, falling to the floor, aud rolling over and kicking. Both men and women engage in the exercises. New members are baptized at midnight io the village mill-pond. On the Sabbath they hold continuous service, taking recess for meals only. An Insinuation. — Two boys iv the employ of the Erie Railway Company having swindled that company out of 270 dollars, the New York Herald heads the uotice of the case, "The Force of Example." A Fat Lady of Albany says : — " lam so fat that I pray for a disappointment to make me thin. No sooner does the disappointment come, than the mere expectation of growing thinner gives me such joy that I become fattec than ever. The Carandinis are having a most successful season at the Thames ; on their opening night there were 1200 personspresent.]
The Proposed Force for Service in New Zealand. — An idea has been for some time prevalent in military circles that arrangements were being made for raising a force iv this countiy for the service of the colouy of New Zealand. It was certainly a part of the missiou of the Colouial Commissioners (Dt'.Featherstoneand Mr. Dillon Bell), to make arrange ments for organising such a force should they deem it practicable; and those gentlemen, whose services od behalf of the colony have been most unremitting, have been in communication with the authorities at head-quarters on tlie subject. The Duke of Cambridge promised to render every assistance to facilitate the volunteering of officers for New Zealand, but an insuperable difficulty appears to have presented itself with lefereuce to the means of securing the service of levies made here on arrival on the other side. This aud other difficulties which have presented themselves have caused the Commissioners, after mature deliberation, to decide on not raising a force in England for service in New Zealand.
