Mining Shares. — Mr H. J. L. Augarde quotes Perseverance Shares, 40s. paid, at par. Busiuess done this day. Winter Evening Entertainments. — We would remind our readers of the entertainment that is to be given at the Assembly Room this evening. In addition to those items of the programme which we noticed yesterday, wa understated that Mr. George Cotterell has kindly consented to sing one of his favorite comic songs. Manuka. — The sporting correspondent of the Australasian writes as follows : — " Manuka has entirely a New Zealand reputation to rely on, be it for better or worse. He came over last year with a great flourish of trumpets, and with a large amount of Maori coin at his back, but one of his legs failed him in his work, and he has since been fired. So far as his present training has gone nothing as yet has given way, and he is in a stable proverbial for having their horses up to the mark in condition. The Caulfield sand will suit his understandings; nevertheless, if I thought all else equal to the work, it will be a difficult matter to get so large and heavy au animal through sufficient work to bring him sound to the post. The handicapper has shown him no mercy, and I think, therefore, although many have backed him with great confidence that he is a most unsafe horse to trust ; however, he will have every justice done him in the riding, as I believe Morrison will steer him. Mr. George Cotterell gave his farewell entertainment last night to a crowded and enthusiastic audience. It is quite unnecessary for us to refer to the numerous characters that were introduced to our notice, for are they cot written on the memories of all who have seen Mr. Cotterell in his various performances, and who is there that has not witnessed his wonderful acting at one time or another ? We heartily wish Mr. Cotterell every success in the tour he is about to make, and hope to see him return to our shores in the possession of some substantial proofs of the appreciation in which we are sure he will be held in the neighboring and more wealthy clonies.
