It may not be generally known that there is at this momeut lying at the Bank of England the sum of £20,000, lodged there by some zealous botanist, as a reward to be given to the man or woman who shall proc?uce a blue dahlia. We know not whether this is a myth or a fact; we have obtained the information from a periodical of a year or two back, and give it on our contemporary's authority, hoping that it may lead some of our botanical readers to set their wits to work to produce the required marvel. It does appear strange that Dahlias of almost every hue of the rainbow have been produced with the exception of jjreen and blue ; and why should these exceptions exist? — Delhi Gazette The Paris Comos says that the Russian Government has resolved to establish an astronomical and meteorological observatory on Mouut Ararat, situated near Tiflis, in consequence of the excellent report given by Dr. Piazzi Smith of the fitness of such high situations, derived from his experience on the Peak of .Teneriffe.
