. . Steamer Kennedt— Messrs. N. Edwards & Co.'s s.s. Kennedy, Captain Whitwell, arrived from the West Coast, on Thursday night, at 9 o'clock. She left Nelson at 5 a.m. on July 26, arriving alongside Motueka wharf at 7 a.m; shipped 52 tons produce and sailed for Westport at 7 p.m.;, . experienced light south-east winds arrived off the Buller at 2 p.m. next day, and crossing the bar at 7 p.m. ; discharged 23 tons cargo, and shipped 95 6heep and 52 pigs for Hokitika. Owing to the inclemency of the weather and roughness of the bar, she could not leave till the following night at 11 o'clock, arriving off Hokitika at 8 a.m. on Saturday, got in at 10 o'clock, after crossing the bar through a heavy surf, and discharged stock and part of . her cargo tlie same afternoon. On Monday she landed the remainder of her cargo and took 4,000ft timber and 10 tons of general cargo for Greymouth and Westport and sailed at 11.30 a.m., and crossed the Grey bar at 1.30 p.m. on the same day, landed about 40 tons of cargo, received 32 tons coal, and sailed again for Westport at 2 p.m. on Tuesday; encountered heavy cross sea on the passage to Westport, where she arrived at midnight. Left Westport at 2 p.m. on Wednesday with light N.E. breeze, which freshened to a brisk gale "with heavy head sea towards midnight At 7 a.m on Thursday finding the wind still increasing laid ship too under close-reefed mainsail. At noon heavy squalls attended with rain, and the wind shifting into S.W., set all sail and shaped her course for the Spit end which she rounded at 3.30 p.m., and arrived as above.
