NELSON BOARD OF WORKS.
v The annual meeting of ratepayers took place at the Market-place to-day, Mr. C Elliott in the chair. The Eeport, and Abstract of Accounts, were read by the Secretary and adopted on the motion of Mr. Wigzell, seconded by Mr. Crisp. Some discussion ensued on the subject of gorse hedges, Mr. Luckie stating that he had repeatedly brought the matter before the notice of the Provincial Solicitor, but without avail. Mr. Haddow expressed his opinion that the churchwardens of Christ Church should see to the hedge round the parsonage ground being removed. The chairman then called for tho nomination of members in the placo of Messrs. Burn, Percy, Black, and Haddow, who retired by rotation, but were eligible for re-election. Mr. Burn was proposed by Mr. J. Garrard, seconded by Mr. Crisp. Mr. Percy was proposed by Mr. Hibble, seconded by Mr. Mabin. Mr. A. Bush was proposed by Mr. King and seconded by Mr. Kidsou. Mr. J. Hounsell was proposed by Mr. Neshe, and seconded by Mr. Thompson. Mr. J. P. Black was proposed by Mr. Haase, and seconded by Mr. Clements. Mr. Haddow was proposed by Mr. J. Garrard, and seconded by Mr. Healy. Mr. Wigzell was proposed by Mr. Webb and seconded by Mr. Speed. Dr. Squires was proposed by Mr. Pollock, auJ seconded by Mr. Mabin. A show of hands was then taken with the following result : — Haddow, 27 ; Burn, 22 ; Percy, 22; Wigzell, 21 ;J. Hounsell, 17 ; Black, 14 ; Bush, 13 ; Squires, 6. A poll was demanded by Mr. Bush. Mr. Hibble and Mr. Mabin were then elected Auditors, and after votes of thanks to the retiring members, and to the chairman, the meeting separated. The poll will take place to-morrow, between the hours of 12 and 4.
