Christ Chtjccel Organ Committee.-^-A meetiug of the Committee will be held at Mr. Mabin's Warehouse, this evening, at half-past 1 seven. As there is business of importance to transact, a full attendance is requested. The English Mail. — The Phoebe with the English Mail via San Francisco arrived at the wharf on Saturday evening about 11 o'clock and sailed for Welliogton immediately. The dates of the news brought by the mail are anticipated by the Suez telegrams. Resident Magistrate's Court. — Ireland tieury McArthur was this morning charged with having, on -Saturday eveuing last assaulted Sergeant Maj or Edwards in the execution of his duty. Defendaut, who stated that he was under the influence of liquor at the time, admitted the offence aud was fined £l aud costs. Football. — A match between the College Boys and the Town Club was played in the 'Botanical G-ardens on Saturday last, and resulted in -favor of the youngsters, the first goal being kicked by Pratt, and the second by Burnett. The laiter was regarded as somewhat of a fluke, as it was hardly a fair kick into the goal, the Lull having cannoned off one o'f the goal-keepers, and thus passed between the posts. • Steamer Murray. — An unfortunate accident occurred to this little steamer on Saturday nijjht just as she was leaving the wharf for Westport, the air-pump rod snapping in two at the first turn of the j engines. As there were nearly forty pas-j sengers on board, the accident was pro-j ductive of niuch inconvenience, as well i as of loss to the owner, some of the pas- j singers, however, obtained accommodation in the Kennedy which was leaving that night for the same destination. The damage we understand, has been repaired aud the steamer will leave for the Coast at noon to-morrow. Quartz Crushing Comp ant. A well attended arid influential meeting was held at the Schoolroom. Lower Wakefield on Saturday eveuing, -Joseph Shephard Esq. M.P.C. in the chair. The object of the meeting was to take into consideration the desirability of establishing a Quartz Crushing company at Wangapeka,. aud from the generals tone. of the meeting and the enthusiastic rrfahrier ih which the proposal was received; it would seem that there is every probability of the company being formed without delay. It is proposed tbat it shall?consist' of J 2(30 shares of £1 each,. 320 of which were taken up in the room. The... fol lowing officers were then appointed; . Provisional Directors, Messrs. Shephard, Wagstaff, Smith, Grillow and E. Baigent with 1 power to add three to their, number ; .Legal, -Managei;, pro tem. Mr. D, M. Luckie. We understand that it is proposed to hold meetings throughout the country districts with a view to getting the shares taken up as speedily as possible.
