I fancied he was dead." So it proved. It was the last charge in Walker's revolver which had despatched the ruffian, and the final encounter was bound to prove fatal to one of the two men who were engaged In this hand-to-hand conflict. Fortunately it; wasthe highwayman who perished, and the coroner's jury which sat upon the body returned a verdict -of "justifiable homicide."
