The Vacancy tor the Grey District. — We understand on good authority that Mr. Frankiyn intends to offer himself as a candidate for re-election for this district, and has already telegraphed to his lole constituents to that effect. St. Mart's Church. — Some alteration having been rendered necessary in the choir of this church, it is intended to open a subscription list for the purchase of a suitable harmonium, and it is hoped that the appeal to be made to the public on this behalf will meet with the success it deserves. We are anxious to correct a mistake which occured in our yesterday's leader, whereiu ifc was stated thafc Mr. Wastney had voted on nearly every occasion against the Government. On looking over the division lists we find thafc he only did so on one occasion, and therefore take an early opportunity of acknowledging the error into which we had fallen. Star Dramatic Ccbipany. — Thia Company which has been " starring ifc" on the West Coast since it left Nelson a few weeks ago, has returned to our town, aud last night made its first appearance in the Oddfellows' Hall, when, ifc is needless to say that they acted to the entire satisfaction, and received the hearty approbation, of those present. As the Company makes but a limited stay in Nelson, it will, no doubt, be largely patronised, and the members of it will find that they have not lost ground in the public favor during their short absence. Patent Slip. — A meeting to consider the propriety of forming a Patent Slip Company was held at the Masonic Hotel yesterday evening, when a model of a slip for sale in Sydney was shown and explained by Mr. Freeman. After some discussion as to which was the preferable course to pursue, [to purchase the slip of which the model was on the table, or to procure one from England, the following resolution was adopted : — " That a provisional committee be appointed to consider the subject of a patent slip for this port on the basis of the proffered government guarantee ; to prepare a prospectus for the formation of a company, and to report to an adjourned meeting, to be held on Saturday evening next, such committee to consist of Dr. Renwick, Messrs. . Shephard, Blackett, MTntosh, James Henry, Brown, John Scott, Thos. Freeman, Elliott, Cross, Louisson, Brown, Thomas Mackay and R. G. Gibbons, with power to add to their number. After passing a vote of thanks to Mr. Freeman for his exertions in promoting the object in view, the meeting separated. Deputy-Auditor. — The Gazette intimates that his Excellency the Governor/ has appointed under section fifty-five of the Public Revenues Act, 1867, John Graham Anderson, Esq., (Son-in-law of Mr. H. Drew of- this city), to act as tha deputy of Charles Knight, Esq. tha Auditor-General, during his absence from Wellington.
