Owing to the general interest now felt in mining matters in Nelson, we propose to publish weekly a report of the state of the share market, &c, with which Mr. Augarde has kindly undertaken to furnish us. With regard to the .Culliford Company he says. : — Shares in this company which has been dormant for so long are regaining their buoyancy, and may be said to be fairly afloat once more. Tbe stone, judiciusly obtained by order of the directors, will shortly be in Nelson, where it will at once be tested. The samples brought down by Mr. Henry have created a feeling of confidence in the reef, and the consequence has been a rise in [the price of shares, which are now selling freely at par, and an advance may (shortly be anticipated. The Perseverance still remains the favorite, shares having changed hands at 355., being a premium of 15s. Machinery for crushing has been erected under the able management of Mr. Thompson, and so far works well. A crushing may be looked for in about 12 days The call of 10s. per share to be made to-day, has not effected the price in the market, thus showing that the public have every confidence in the directory. The Pioneer Company consisting of 150 shares, £6 paid, has every reason to look forward to a prosperous future as the prospects are rapidly improving, The confience felt in this company is shown by the fact that, the last call, made in a temporary difficulty, was cheerfully responded to* The advantage to Nelson of such a copper mine as this promises to be, is simply inestimable. The Lucky Hit, a small Company, consisting of 21 shares, has found good gold on the block of land leased by them, the effect being that £15 has already been paid for the half of a £5 paid share. As soon as the Perseverance machinery is ready to commence operations, the stone from this claim will be tested. The Masonic is another small Company which promises well. They hold a good block of land under lease from the Government. j On the whole there is every reason to believe that better times arc in store for us, and it is to be hoped that some of the capital at present locked up in mortgages will eventually find its way into our reefs and mines, thus materially assisting in developing our resources.
