The Aelson Evening Mail. FRIDAY, MAY 1870.
We are glad to learn that the Perseverance Company's machinery is now almost completed, and that the battery received its preliminary trial on Wednesday last, when everything was found to work most satisfactorily. The supply of water is quite adequate to meet the present requirements, which is somewhat beyond expectation, and is consequent upon the large percentage of power given by the Turbine in use on the supply of water. We are informed that the Turbine erected is one of Schieles' patent reaction wheels, and has twelve ports, only four of which were required to drive all tbe present stampers at the rate of 75 blows per minute, working at the same time the amalgamating machinery. With the present head and an increase of water, sufficient power to drive at least 30 head is obtainable. ' As soon as the retorting furnaces are completed, and the copper laid down, which will occupy about a fortnight, tbe plants will be ready for commencing operations, when we hope to give a fuller and more detailed account of the machinery and its workiDg.
