The Nelson Evening Mail. FRIDAY, APRIL 29, 1870. PROVINCIAL COUNCIL. Thursday, Apeil 28.

The Council met yesterday evening at 5 o'clock, but no business of importance was transacted. On the motion of Mr. Wastney an alteration was made in the Stauding Orders reducing the number of members constituting a quorum from eight to seven. Mr. C.Kelliog asked the Provincial Solicitor whether any steps had been taken to lay out, a road in Waimea West along the river side towards the new bridge, the reply being that none such had been taken, nor was it the intention of the Government to do so, as it could not be carried out without incurring a large expense. On the motion of the Provincial Solicitor the Country Roads Bill was read a second time, notice of motion being given by Mr. Shephard that a Select Committee be formed to take it into consideration. A Select Committee was appointed on the motion of. the Provincial Secretary to select papers to be printed in the "Votes [ and Proceedings of the Council. On the question being put that the Council do [adjourn until Friday morning at eleven, it was moved by Mr. O'Connor, and seconded by Mr. Rutherford, that the adjournment | be until five in the evening; on the.grounds that a change in the usual proceedings might take place from the commencement of the session, the moyer beiDg desirous of having six sitting . days in the week. Motion negatived on the voices. .The Council then adjourned until this day at 1] a.m.
