PROVINCIAL COUNCIL.

The Council met yesterday evening but none but purely formal business was transacted. The Country Roads Bill and Nelson Waterworks Act Amendment Bill were brought in by the Provincial Solicitor and read a first time, and on the motion of Mr. WASTNETa Select Committee, consisting of Messrs. Macmahon, F. Kelling, Tar rant, O'Connor, and the mover, was appointed to prepare a reply to the Superintendent's address. The report of the Provincial Auditor was read by the Speaker, and several notices of motion having been given, the Council adjourned until this evening at 5 o'clock. The following are the notices of motion for this day : — 1. Mr. Wastney to move that Standing Orders No. 6, and No. 95, be altered by substituting the word " seven " for the word "eight" in each Standing Order. 2. Mr. C. Kelling, to ask the Provincial Secretary, if any, or what, steps have been taken to lay out a road in Waitnea West, in continuation of the present trunk line, along the river side towards the new bridge. 3. The Provincial Solicitor to move the second reading of the Country Roads Bill. 4. The Provincial Secretary to move that a Select Committee be appointed to select papers to be printed in the Votes and Proceedings of the Council, such Committee to consist of the Speaker, Mr. Reid, Mr. Wastney, Mr. Tarrant, and the mover.
