MELBOURNE. 19th March. Import markets dull. Sales by auction numerous. Business generally unsatisfactory. Business confidence partly res'o'-ed. Flour, £10 lOs to £11. Oats. 3s 6d to 3s 7d. Maize, dull, 3s 6d. Wheat, 3s 9d to 4s 10-J-d. Sugars, ex Perseverant, intended for New Zealand, were disposed of by auction at a decline of 20s all round. Under hammer, Java rice, £18 10s ; mill dressed. £19 10s. Candles, lOd to lOfd. Kerosine, 2s 2d, Wool sales very firm. The mail steamer reached the bay on Wednesday, Ifith. Among her passengers were Mr. and Mrs. Charles Mathews and Captain Sturt. Captain Graham, of the ship Whirl wind t honorably acquitted from the clmrge of running his ship on the rocks in the Java sea. The suicide mania still continues, chiefly among women. Dawson, the eminent barrister, is dead. The authorities have decided to arraign Draper on a fresh charge of forgery. The Commercial Bank drafts on London were refused, the accounts being complicated through Draper's manipulations and erasures. ADELAIDE. Adelaide unemployed, after commencing, relinquished Government work and wages. A deputation from the Chamber of Commerce, in an interview with the Postmaster-General, urged on him the adoption of a four-weekly Californim route. The Postmaster- aeneral spoke favorably of the proposal, but said it was a Cabinet question. SYDNEY. The Assembly refused tc recommit the Divorce Bill, with a view of considering -n amendment giving a wife power to ootain a divorce from her husband. Supplies have been voted for the current month . The Clontarf Picnic on St. Patrick's Day was a great success. The Treason Felony Act has expired. The Government do not intend to re-enact it.
