The raiuf'all iu the various provinces of New Zealand for the month of January of tlie preseat year was as follows. Hokitika, 85 inches ; Dunedin, 7| inches ; Southland, 11 inches ; Bealy, 9 inches ; Christchurch, 3.1 (nearly) ; JNelson, IJ ; Wellington, nearly 4 ; Napier, 4 ; Taranaki, 2\ ; Auckland, 4. The least quantity of rain for this period fell at Nelson, aud-the greatest at Southland. Another Fire in Marlborough. — The cottage of Mr. James Robinson at Spring Creek, was totally destroyed by fire on Thursday afternoon last, duiing the absence of its owner, when a cousiderable amount of goods aud property stored therein was destroyed. Mr. Robinson has been absent for some time, and the place was used as a storehouse, consequently the fire is supposed tobe the work of au incendiary. A strong suspicion exists as to the miscreant who occasioned it. — Express.
