Inquest. — An inquest was h.dd yesterday, before Dr. Squires, the coroner, ou the late fire at the Port, when a verdict was returned to the effect thafc the house took fire accidentally. We have been requested to correct an error which appeared in our account of the late fire at the Port, in which it was , stated that the husband of Mrs. M'Donald. whose house was burnt, was a boatman trading betweeii Nehon and Motueka, whereas he had been uutil very lately master and part owner of tiie schooner Alert, but had receutly sold his share in j her, and it was the money he had received liv paymeufc that was lost, it being at the time of the fire in a box; under "the bed. Fire at Bishopdale. — We regret to learn that the stables at Bishopdale were this morning totally destroyed by fire. The flames were flrst discovered by two foot-passengers, who were coming into town at about half-past seven, and who immediately gave the alarm, and set to work with a number of neighbors, who Were soon on the spot, in removing the contents of the coach-house, which was under the same roof as the stable. The gardener's house, which was in close proximity to the burning building, was only saved by the strenuous efforts of those who had collected to render assistance. Nothing could be removed from the stable, ! which contained a chaff-cutting machine and a qudutity of harness, -the whole of which were, of course, lost. The fire is supposed to have originated in the heating of -the hay in the loft.
