The Claud.. Hamilton, which arrived yesterday from Melbourne, via Southern Ports, brought the remainder of the machinery for tbe Perseverance Company's battery. The Hon. the Premier was a passenger by the Phoebe from Auckland (his morning, and intends, wc understand, to deliver a lecture to nijjht, on Total Abstinence, at the Temperance Hall. Motueka Cadets. — At a late meeting of this corps Ensign Edmund Parker was | unanimously elected Lieutenant vice Herrick Thorpe, resigned, aud Corporal Fitzroy Horm-man was elected Ensign, vice Edmund Parker, promoted. Resident Magistrate's Court. — But little business was done at the Court this j morning, the only cases heing two of cattle trespass, when the offenders wero fined in the usual amount, and one of debt — Ironside v Brock, for £33 10s for house rent, when judgment was given for the plaintiff for the amount claimed, and costs, £1 ss.
