QUARTZ REEFS.
To the Editor of tub Nelson Evening Mail. Sir, —My attention has been directed to a letter which appeared in your issue, dated 14th inst., signed '• Qui Vive." Poor fellow I know him well, and he appears to be perplexed about the author of the reports, see my letter per Examiner, also the Maitai leaders. I shall be most happy to inform " Qui Vive" personally, on the payment of £5 •'ss., the reason why the leaders I examined are not gold-bear-ing, also the reason why other quartz leaders are gold-bearing. Tiis introductory paragraph is too absurd for me to notice. "If "Qui Vive" wants the full length of his tether let him have it. lam ready, having anticipated your correspondent's erroneous letter some time ago. That under current of certain malicious and libellous insinuations (snakes in the grass) existing more or less iu almost every community, sometimes gains sufficient credit and power to dethrone kings, ruiu empires, and sap the social foundations of society, and too often blights the highest efforts made by our best men whea striving hard to realize the greatest good for the greatest number, and many a noble mind has had to succumb to an early grave through these Vermin —illustrating the truism of our immortal bard " That man's inhumanity to man makes countless thousands mourn." Yours respectfully, James Sims, from the stone quarries of Carmyllie, and not the Moutere Hills Sims, as some imagine and chuckle over.
