The s.s. Murray arrived here on Saturday last, at 3p m. Captain M'Gillivray reports leaving Nelson at midnight on the 7th, experiencing strong S.W. galea On Tuesday, at 2 p.m., whilst off West Wanganui, she had to bear up for shelter under Cape Farewell; at midnight another attempt to proceed was made, but on rounding the Cape the boat could not look at it, and had to bear up again until Wednesday, at 9 a.m., when she made a third attempt, and after a severe dressing of 22 hours succeeded in reaching Westport ; arriving too late for tide, crossed the bar ou Thursday at 1 p.m. Left Westport at 4 a.m. for Grey, when she had crossed the bar they found, her rudder had gone, came to anchor in the roadstead ; the Waipara coming out; a short time after,*the passengers and cargo were transhipped ; and after a few hours, having rigged up a steering apparatus, she sailed for Nelson. They had great difficulty in managing ths vessel, owing to a heavy N.W. gale which she encountered in the passage. The horses were transhipped in good order. In consequence of the accident to her rudder, she will not go the advertised excursion trip.
