The Government deserve every credit for their determination to encourage local manufacturing industry. Not only have they given Mr. Webley, of Nelson, a considerable order for tweeds, but they have extended from the Ist March to the 20th of May, the time for receiving tenders for 10,000 yards of blue serge, 2000 yards of •white flannel for shirts, and 2000 blankets, to he manufactured in the colony. Persons intending to tender can see samples, and learn all particulars on application to Colonel Gorton, Inspector of Stores, Wellington. — Post.
SLEEPY HOLLOW. I. Sleepy Hollow, aptly deemed, Nelson, with thy slumbering face, Thy quietude is sd esteemed None can leave this quiet place. Arcadia's bower it looks to me, Thy children sylvan shepherds seem, Whose labor looks so light to be, Life's work is but a lovely dream. Thy daughters, oh, so bright and fair, Stamped with Virtue's soft impress, Whose faces decked with golden hair, Ar.d sweet, but simple, is their dress. Long may the world's rude blast pass by This spot where tranquil joys now dwell, Oh, happy Nelson, how I sigh, As now I bid thee, fare-thee-well.
