RESIDENT MAGISTRATE'S COURT.
[Before J. Sharp, Esq, R.M.] This Day. Harriet Green v. Lucy Kite. Claim for £7 11s. lOd. Mr. H. Adams appeared for the plaintiff. £3 10s. having been paid since the issue of the summons, judgment was given for £4 Is. lOd. and costs, £2. Curtis Brothers v. James. Action to recover £97 10s., amouut of dishonored acceptance. Judgment for plaintiff for amount claimed and costs, £2 9s. Williams v. Jacobs. Claim for £3. Plaintiff was nonsuited. Mary Ami Seabourne was charged with stealing Bs. 6d. from the cash box of Mr. W. Lane of the Coach and Horses Hotel. It appears that Mr Lane, having constantly lost small sums of money of late, communicated with the Inspector of the Police, who, yesterday morning, sent Sergeant-Major Edwards to the house. Edwards, having placed several marked coins in the box, which was in Mr. Lane's bedroom, retired into the opposite room and, after waiting for some time, saw, through the keyhole, the prisoner come up stairs, go into Mr. Lane's room and lift the box. After waiting a minute or two he went in and discovered that Bs. Od. had been abstracted from the box. He at once secured the prisoner, and, upon searching her, fouud the missiug money concealed in the tuck of her petticoat. Prisoner was sentenced to one mouth's imprisonment.
