PLUMBAGO.
To the Editor of the ' Nelson Evening Mail. SiR) — Having read a paragraph in your paper that the attention of capitalists has been directed towards the discovery of plumbago recently made in this Province, and asking for samples to be sent by way ofDunedin, to England, for the purpose of testing the commercial value of plumbago. I beg to state that while prospecting on D'Urville's Island in 1869, I discovered a well defined plumbago lode ; about 50 lbs of the mineral I extracted in half-an-hour, and brought to Nelson, and the sample was pronounced by competent judges to be the best ever exhibited here. Unfortunately I find that the bag and contents disappeared, otherwise I intended to have sent it to England by way of Dunedin. I may mention that a large supply can be obtained from the Island. I am, &c, James Sims, Consulting Mining Surveyor.
