The Whaler Northern Light, 42 months out, has arrived at Russell, Province of Auckland, with 3,300 barrels of oil on on board. The Twenty-fifth Session of the Auckland Provincial Council was opened on Wednesday last by T. B. Gillies, Esq., the newly elected Superintendent. The opposition has been gradually increasing as the elections proceeded, and many a stormy debate is expected before prorogation of the Council. Ohinemuri. — There has been a rumor about the city this last fewxlays that the opening of the Upper Thames will soon be un fait accompli; in short some of our citizens go so far as to say that advertisements have been sent to the Australian newspapers, announcing the fact that the Ohinemuri country is thrown open to European industry and enterprise. — Auckland News.
