The Nelson Evening Mail. SATURDAY, JANUARY 22, 1870.

Resident Magistrate's Court. — Jones v. Membry. Action to recover £2 Oa. 6J. for goods supplied. Judgment for plaiutiff for amount claimed and costs, The Flying Squadron. — By advertisement we see that the s. s. Murray will sail for Wellington on Monday morning, taking passengers there and back, at the rate of £2. As the Squadron is to arrive in Wellington to-morrow, an opportunity is thus offered of seeing this splendid fleet, which the public will doubtless largely avail themselves of. Collingwood. — The prospecis of those who are interested in the various claims 1 that have lately beeu taken up atCollingwood appear to be getting brighter and brighter. By the Lady Barkly which arrived from there yesterday, several gentlemen returned who have been over •to examine the different reefs, and we understand that they report most favorably of them. On one or two, men are busily engaged in getting out stone preparatory to crushing, and ere many weeks elapse the sound of machinery will be heard on the Perseverance claim, with a result, we hope, that will prove satisfactory to all concerned. Bicycle Race. — A velocipede race which excited a good deal of interest took place yesterday evening between M'Gee and H.. Wimsett, who were competitors in the race on New Year's Day, wheu a dis- 1 pute arose 011 some technical point of racing laws. It was therefore decided that there should be another trial of speed between the two," and a match was made for £2 aside, the course being from the Trafalgar Hotel to the wharf and back. Ou the word being given, the rivals started aud kept well together the whole way to the turning point, sometimes one being a few inches ahead and sometimes the other, aud there svemed to be every probability that the race would result in a dead heat, until they arrived at the Victoria Hotel on their way home, when Wimsett put ou steam aud gradually forged ahead, landing himself a winner, by about a dozen yards, the distance, something over 2|miles, beiug accomplished in 11 minutes 5 seconds.
