-Messrs. N. Edwards and Co's. steamer Charles Edward returned to port this morning at five o'clock. Captain Holmes reports leaving here on Friday, t e 14th instant, at 3 pm. A strong N.W. gale compelled' him to take shelter under D'UrvihVs Island, where he lay till 8 on Saturday evening. Arrived at Wanganui early on Sunday, and left again or Monday at 8 p.m. Landed passengers and cargo at Taranaki next -morning, and arrived at Manukau on Wednesday at daybreak. Sailed at 3 p.m. on Thursday, meeting the John Penn shortly afterwards, and the Comerang in the evening. Arrived off Taranaki at 6 next mornin- 1, and Jeft at 10.30, reaching Nelson as above. Strong westerly winds were experienced from Taranaki.
