NATIVE INTELLIGENCE.

o (From the Hawke's Bay Herald, Jan. 5.) Intelligence was received late on Sunday night by Mr Ormond, by way of Wanganui river, of the movements of Kemp and Topia, with the Wanganui war party. The information received is most satisfactory in every respect, except the delay that has occured from the extraordinary weather that has been experienced. The Wanganui river, up to which the war party goes by canoe, has been in heavy flood ever since our last advices, and quite impassable for canoes. Topini te Mamaku, who opposed the advance of Topia's war party, has withdrawn his opposition, and is supplying them with food. The taua was at Maraekowai, about a days journey from Makokomiko, where Te Kooti is said to be. It is believed up the Wanganui river that an engagement must have taken place before the heiavy rain commenced, but if so, nothiDg has since been heard of it. Topia had received a letter from Manuwhiri (Tamati Ngapora), written from Te Kuiti, fully approving, on the part of the Waikato, of all Topia and Kemp have undertaken to do. This confirms tbe sincerity of the Waikato tribes in their arrangements with Mr. McLean ; and we are entitled to bope that there is every chance of the miscreant Te Kooti and his band being dealt with. It is a singular fact that every movement that has been undertaken against Te Kooti has been more or less delayed by the rains aud accompanying floods which bave been so frequent this season at Taupo.
