The Small Green Paroquet has acclimatised itself in LondoD, where troops of thera may be seen feeding with the sparrows in some places. A Shower of Spiders. — An extraordinary phenomenon was lately witnessed in Carlisle, consisting of a shower of what may be best described as small spiders, resembling the ant in form, but of much smaller dimensions. They were of a dark mahogany colour and bright surface, and came down in countless numbers in the forenoon, at once setting to work spinning webs. A similar visitation was noticed at Kendal. A Harvest. — Under the heading of " A Harvest," the Melbourne Herald of the 30th says: — "About 1000 men belonging to. the Flying Squadron were allowed on shore yesterday ; ' and as each man had received on an average about £5, there must bave been about £5000 to be distributed amongst the various places of amusement likely to be patronised by the visitors. No doubt many of our cheap taps reaped a harvest that, if not literally filling their barns and storehouses, went a great n*ay to swelling the contents of the tills.
