PURCHASE OF AURIFEROUS LAND AT OHINEMURI.
(From the Times Correspondent.") I have received information from sources, tbe reliability of which I can scarcely question, that several speculators have already purchased large tracks of the supposed auriferous laud from the natives. It is said that many hundreds of pounds have been advanced on the purchases, and that surveys will shortly be entered upon, previous to the passing of the land through the Native Lands Court. Tukukino, I know, has openly stated his belief in the truth of the report alluded to, and has expressed his firm determination to resist to the last all efforts at alienating the lands from the Maori owners. As the Government have paid some £700 on such lands as have been signed over to the Governor for mining purposes, and as these lands are the ones now reported to have been acquired by private individualsjI fancy that the rights of the diggers will yet be preserved, and that those who would thus buy up a goldfield will be sadly disappointed in their several little games.
