Wjjsleyan Missionary Meeting. — A public meeting will be held this evening iu the Stoke Chapel, at seven o'clock, and to-morrow eveaing at Richmond. The Superintendency. — We observe that Mr. Akersten publishes an indignant denial of a report said to have beeu circulated through the Waimeas by Mr. Wilkie to f.he effwct that he, Mr. Akersteu, would resigu in favor of Mr. Gibbs. The Provincial Council.— We notice that in cotnpliauce with a largelysigned requisitiou, Mr. A. Reid has consented to come forward as a member of the Council for Westport. Mr. Hennelly has offered himself for re-electiou for the Charlestou district, and Mr. W. Harrison has declared his intention of standing for the Grey District. Public Meeting.: — A meeting is to be held this evening at half-past seveD, at the Schoolroom, Lower Wakefield, for the purpose of taking into consideration the late sales of auriferous land at Wangapeka. We understand that his Honor the Superintendent, the Speaker of the Provincial Council, and the Commissioner of Crown Lands, as members of the Waste Xands Board, intend to be present at what, we are informed, will be a densely crowded meeting. Mr. Gibbs at Westport.— We learn from the Westport Times that Mr. Gibbs addressed the electors at Westport, on Friday evening last, but as no account of the meeting has appeared in the local papers, we presume that they did not deem it of sufficient importance to report it; fully. From a gentleman who was present we learn that Mr. Gibbs did not make a very favorable impression upon his audience, who appeared to be inclined to treat the matter as a joke, and to look upon it as an excellent opportunity for an abundant display of chaff, with which we hear the unfortunate candidate was plentifully besprinkled.
