The present year is the centenary of the birth of Watt's condensing steamengine, and it is also the 50th year since the death of Watt. The year 1869 isalso the centenary of the birth, of James Watt, the younger, and of Humboldt, Cuvier, the first Brunei, Marshals Soult andJNtey, and Sir Thomas Lawrence.
