LOCAL NEWS.
Steamer Kennedy. — We are glad to find that this favorite little steamer, which has for so long a period been bar-bound at Hokitika, has at last got out of the river, and may be expected here tomorrow. Steamer Waipara. — This steamer, which should have put in an appearance yesterday, has not, we hear, been able to get out of Greyniouth, owing to the bad state of the bar. Dramatic Headings. — We would remind our readers of Mr. J. ISTeill's Entertainment, which is to take place at the Oddfellows' Halt this evening, .commencing at 8 o'clock. I Moutere Road Board. — An election j for a new Road Board recently took place at the Moutere, when the following members were elected : — Messrs Benseman, Druramond, Dencker, Harvey, and Wills. Tenders are called for the Secretaryship, for which there are several candidates. Re-Annexation of Marlborough.— A meeting of the Nelson and Marlborough ' members now present in Wellington was to be held to-day at the House oi Representatives for the purpose of taking into consideration the desirability of the reunion of the two provinces. We are informed that most, if not all, of the Nelson members are in favor of re-annex-ation.
■. _ ( A Warning to Veloctpedestrian's. | — A gentleman connected with one of the j Banks in this city met with rather a serious accident on Tuesday last. It appears he was taking a spin round in a velocipede, | but, not haviug had much experience in i that mode of locomotion, allowed it to i turn over, and in the fall his foot caught | in one of the stirrup irons, by which his leg was broken. — Wellington Post. Members and Mutton Chops. — The Wellington correspondent.^ the Oamaru Times is responsible fos the following, for the correctness of which we" are by no means disposed to vouch/r but would rather . suggest that, like the chops referred to, it should be taken cum grano salts : — On Saturday eveuing last, I was in a butcher's shop here, when one of the members entered and purchased three pounds of chops. On leaving,, he remarked, 'ah, these will do me to-day !' I subsequently learnt that this worthy member (in tho receipt,, remember, of an honorarium of one guinea a day) was one of four who clubbed; together, and paying 255. a week (not 255. each) for the use' of a sittingroom arid bedrooms, catered for themselves." ■/'/'■ ' A*7*A; ; :;.
