Local Committee of Education. — We have been requested to call the attention of the ratepayers of Richmond to the annual meeting to be held at the Agricultural Hall, on Saturday next, at 12 o'clock, for the purpose of electing members vice Messrs. Barnicoat, Gapper, Senr., Oxley, aud Harkness, who retire by rotation. It is to be hoped that the interest so generally shown in the district last year will not be permitted to flag on the. present occasion, and that the ratepayers will take care to elect duly qualified persons to look after the iuterests of their children and schools. Rifle Shooting. — We understand that the Snider Carbine offi red by Lieutenant Hunter Brown, as a prize to the highest scorer in the City Artillery Company, was not fired for to-day as advertised, the reason beiug lhat one of the conditions was that there should be at least ten competitors, whereas only six were present at the Butls. A sweepstake was however got up on the spot, wben the following scores were made, Captain Pitt, 41 ; Sergeant Smith, 37 ; Gunner Taylor, 35 ; the ranges being 200, 300, and 400 yards, target 6 feet by 4 fe.it, with 8-inch bull's eye. The Carbine is to bo offered for competition in the spring.
