Ball Comittee — We are requested to remind the members of this Committee that there will . be a meeting to-nigbt at the Provincial Hall at half-past seven. Mesmerism. — Dr Carr gave another of his seances :it the Odd Fellows Hall on Saturdaynight before a large audience. The antics performed by some of the subjects, who appeared to be thoroughly under his command, were of so amusing a nature that we shall not attempt to describe them, but simply recommend our readers to attend again to-night and witness the proceedings themselves. Snag ox tub Buxler Bar. — Notice is given in the Government. Gazette that there is a. large snag on the Bar of the Duller iliver, which, in the present state of the channel, is right in the fairway of the North Channel. The snag will ,be removed, or marked by buoys or beacons as soon as practicable; and in the meantime Masters of vessels are warned of its existence. "'^IiffPOBTED Animals. — Those of our readers who take an interest in acclimatisation will be glad to learn that two hares have been lately seen in the Maitai district, one near the stone quarry, and the other some way up the valley. A couple of those animals were turned out some few months since by Mr Huddleston and there can I.c little doubt, from the fact of two of them being seen at a, considerable distance apart, that they have increased and are gradually si>re<iuing over the country. -'"'Mail SEUviCES.-r-The Time Table for the month of May- has 'been published, and we find that, with its usual consideration for Nelson, the Government has so far ignored the existence of this Port as to allow the si earner from Melbourne with the English mail, which will first toucli at liokitika, to pass us by and to proceed direct to Wellington, and in the same manner to go direct from Wellington to Hokitilca when carrying the homeward mail. The steamers with the interprovincial mails will arrive at Nelson as follows : — from Manukau for South, Ist and 13th ; from Wellington and South for Manukau 22nd April and 6th May. Coroner's Inquest. — An inquest was held this afternoon at the Post Boy Hotel, before Dr Squires, the coroner, and a jury, on the body of Elizabeth Burn, wife of Daniel Burn, a carpenter residing in Toi-toi Valley who died suddenly on Saturday night. Daniel Burn sworn : — At 8 o'clock on Saturday night I came homa from the country and found my wife in a very weak state, produced I believe by drink. I went into town to get some groceries, and returned home a little after nine. I found her sitting by the gate moaning, I took her in and seated her before the fire, and gave her a little hot brandy and water, which seemed to revive her. We sat by the fire for about an hour* when -I gave her a cup of tea, undressed, and put her to bed, when I gave her some more tea. She was in a very weak and helpless state, and shortly after taking the second cup of tea, she fell back perfectly stiff and soon got cold. I went off for Dr. Cottevell, who relumed with me, and pronounced her to be dead. She had been in the habit of drinking. The evidence of Dr Cotterell, who had made a pout mortem examination of the body, went to prove that deceased had died from ulceration of the bowels. The jury returned a verdict that " deceased had died from natural causes."
