CORRESPONDENCE.
TO THE EOITOK OF THE NELSON EVENING MAIL. Sir. — I am surprised at the perseverance wherewith the Editor of the Colonist continues to make fa.se statements regarding the Koyal visit, particularly as he has frequently dwelt upon the meanness of making false statements when the truth is easily to be ascertained. In this morning's Colonist one of the subcommittees is soundly belaboured, and as I happen to be one of that sub-committee, you will perhaps allow me to make the following statements through the medium of your paper for the benefit (if the Editor of the Colonist. The triumphal arch was not designed by the sub-committee, but by a gentleman, who is a perfect stranger to them. 'i he design was afterwards approved of by the Eeception Committee, and it was decided by them that the arch should be erected according to his design. The idea of decorating the arch with " archangels " neither originated with the sabcommittee, nor was it ever entertained by them. Lastly, allow me to assure the Editor of the Colonist, that bis grand appeal to the Eeception Committee, and to the fair ladies of Nelson ia quite unnecessary, as the tender accepted by the sub-committee precludes the possibility of such a display. I am, &c. 11. A, Levmstam.
