It is rumoured that in all probability the tender of the Australasian Steam Navigation Company for the conveyance of the English mails to and from New .Zealand, will be accepted. It has been ascertained that compressed gun cotton ignited with a detonating fuse is even more powerful than nitro-glycerine, which itself has, weight for weight, six times the explosive force of gunpowder.
