I Caution to Amateur Boatmen. — ! JAn accident occurred on Saturday after-' noon to three gentlemen, Messrs Putt, Tregurtha, and McMullen, of the Union Bank of Australia, which might have terminated fatally, but fortunately being witnessed from the shorp, assistance was rendered in time to save those who were placed in a most perilous position. It appears that the three gentlemen in questiou went on a rowing excursion outside the harbor, but on returning they determined to set sail, one of the party who hail the management of the sail standing on one side of the boat and the other two sitting on the opposite side. Unfortunately the one who was acting as failing master was a little unaccustomed to the duties which devolved upon him, and in making some movement he slipped and fell overboard, and in doing so capsized the boat, thus immersing the whole party in the water. For some time they all clung to the boat, but finding her gradually sinking, Messrs Butt and Tregurtha struck out for a buoy which happened to be near the scene of the accident and which they reached in safety. The mishap having been witnessed from the shore, some persons put off to their relief and succeeded in rescuing the two who were clinging to the buoy as well as Mr McMullen who remained with the boat, the whole of the party being certainly wetter, if not wiser, men than when they started on their little pleasure trip, Drunk and Incapable.- James Young, charged with the. above offence at the Resident Magistrate's Court this morning, was fined 10a and costs.
